Walking to class

As I walked to and from class today, I began to notice something about everyone including myself. I noticed that the speed people walk is so much faster than a casual pace that you see in the mall. Think about it, since you've been to college, have your parents ever commented on how fast you walk when you're around them? I know mine have. After noticing this, I thought about why I walk fast. The main reasons are becuase I'm running late or the weather is bad and I want to get inside. Observing the frantic walking done by the students, on a day when the weather is good, I decided that they were either running late or just excited to get to class. Because I don't believe in the second comment, I would say that most students don't leave for class until the very last minute.

RTP rivalry

Last night the heels took on a much weaker opponent, but one that makes a great game to watch. The wolfpack neeeded a win over carolina to make a case for the NCAA tournament in March. Last night just wasn't their night. Before the game i met up with a few freinds from state, including my twin brother. There was alot of junk talking going on, but they all knew what the outcome would be. As i was sitting waiting for the game to start, i realized why i loved carolina basketball so much. Its not just how good the team is, but the energy you feel in the stadium as everyone is eager in anticipation of the tip-off. The experience of watching the heels, and the goose bumps you get when danny or wayne drains a three is unforgettable and is something that never gets old. You couple those feelings with the fact that we were playing state, a rtp rival, the excitement couldn't be contained. I wish that for the first 5 minutes of the game I was sitting in the student section so I could jump and yell without being kicked out of my seat. I had to settle with just imagining myself doing it.

Anyway, the game wasn't the most exciting, but was nonetheless very entertaining. The first half was, just like always, kept close and, in some instances, state had the lead. This was due to their point guard, gonzalez, playing the best game of his career. I've watched a few state games, and this guy was making shots last night that aren't in his skill set. At halftime, the usual blues brothers routine came out, even though they do basically the same thing everytime, its still fun to watch because they change a little bit each time. last night, they had an old woman dance with them, and she was lovin it and the crowd loveed it. They keep the fans happy when the heels didn't play a great half, maintaining the energy in the fans which translates to energy in the athletes. So, like clockwork, the heels came out in the second half and just tired the pack out. Danny, wayne, ty, and tyler all scored over 15 points. Thats the distributiuon that wins national championships.

Strange

On my way back from english class today, I saw a guy riding a razor scooter. You know the sharper image toy you got for christmas when you were 12. I thought it was strange especially considering he was cruising at a speed no faster than a walk. Why would you ride a scooter that makes you look crazy if it doesn't save you any time gettint to class? Maybe he wanted to stand out becuase he loves the attention, although i thought the green hair could do that alone. I don't have a problem with this guys appearance or the fact that he was riding a scooter, I just qonder why he does it. There are always things I don't understand, like this psychology lecture I'm "listening" to right now. I have found that playing solitaire during class can limit the amount of information in which you obtain. Interesting right? Zoning in and out of this lecture i learn that by forming routines of not paying attention when your young make it harder to focus later in life. In my professors words, "learning is relativly permanent change in behavior as a result to practice or experience." This makes me think of sports becuase you practice to make permanent changes especially in habits. And of course, sports makes me think of tar heel basketball. I am very excited for the game tomorrow. My parents (UNC alumni) and my twin brother (NC State freshman) are coming to the game. My brother grew up a state fan his whole life, and although he tries to cheer for state (and will act like he is tomorrow) inside he wants the heels to crush the pack. Not like it really matters becuase that will happen anyway, but its principal. The only bad thing is my parents gave my brother two tickets so he is bringing a friend, most of his friends at state i know from high school, and some of them are true state fans (very annoying and anti-carolina). Don't get me wrong, i like hanging out with these guys, but state-carolina football weekend was terrible. I had about 10 guys in my room, 8 from state. I couldn't stand it. But tomorrow will be a different story, and obviously my next blog will be about the game.

One Hundred!!!

So it is eleven oclock and i've been awake for about 22 hours, but still running off the adrenaline from the heels embarrasing the devils. Coming into the game, the dukees were giving up an average of 61 points per game, and we dropped a hundred. When i saw bobby frasor knock down three 3's in the first half and deon score 10 in the first 8 mins, i thought this game was gonna be a blowout. But after we gave up the ten point lead in the first halft and they turned it back into an eight point lead heading into halftime, i was feeling nervous and a little worried about the outcome of the game. But, i regret doubting the talent of our players. Ty lawson scored like 23 points in the second half to go along with the rest of the teams normal production. The dagger in dukes heart was hansbrough's three pointer with 2 secs left on the shot clock to shut all the cameron crazies up. Greg paulus had his best game of the season and was still embarrassed so bad by lawson that he had to watch most of the second half. I almost feel sorry for the duke students who camped out in coack k-ville since jan 4 to get tickets to that game, bet they are sorry. If anyone sees tyler around campus this week, congratulate him on being only the second star player to go undefeated in cameron indoor stadium. And yes, danny green as well, although bobby deserves it, he doesn't count on the fact that he was injured last year when we played 'em.

Anyway, the excitement from that game was quickly overrun by my test today. I have been up all night studyin for it and am pretty confident. I just hope i can attack this test like the heels did. Well, i'm to do some last minute studyin before my test.

thursday below freezing

Today in my psychology class, we discussed sleep and its importance in the psyche and how vital it is that you get enough. I learned that if you don't get much sleep, you should eat more to increase your energy that was lost by not sleeping enough. Our sleep pattern depends on sleep drive and circadian rythms. After assessing my own sleep patterns, I determined that I have some sort of sleep disorder. Maybe it's a disorder that I create by not keeping a consistent sleep schedule because of my random all-nighters and mid-day naps. I'm sorry for boring you with my psychology class, but I had to listen to it for an hour and fifteen minutes.

On a more exciting note, I have regained the feeling in my face after walking what seemed like 5 miles in 25 degree weather. I don't know about you, but I hate cold weather if its not going to snow. Snow fell a little the other day when the temperature was 40 degrees, so, of course, it didn't stick and didn't prevent class on wednesday. I'm not sure when groundhog day is, or if I've already missed it, but he better not see his shadow or i might not see mine outside for another 6 weeks.

Oh what a night

After watching the heels trample the terps on tuesday, it felt almost as if they one again today. Both the deacons and the devils lost in embarrasing defeats. Wake lost by 27 points to miami, the team we beat by over 20, and duke lost to clemson by 27, another team we beat by around 20. My new favorite numbers are 27 and 3, the latter being the heels new ranking come monday. After these two games, the heels now sit atop the acc rankings and hold the number one seed for march in their own hands. If zoeller can make a full recovery and get playing time before the acc tournament, we will be unstoppable in our search for another championship. Even without the smooth shot of will graves who is suspended for the rest of the season for not upholding the characteristics of a carolina player (something he and phelps have in common) we will be a force to be reckoned with. I can't wait for saturday when we crush the already crippled cavaliers. This will be most enjoyable because my sister is a cavalier and will hear alot of talk from me.
